UG Programme

Name of the Programme : Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (B.V. Sc. & A. H.)

Duration and Approved Seats : 5.5 Years (Gujarat-68 + VCI-12 + Kashmiri Migrant-02 = 82)

Details of the Programme

System of Teaching

The minimum duration of degree programme shall be five and half years including compulsory One year internship training after successful completion of entire course work and required co-curricular activities including NCC / NSS. The maximum time limit of the completion of entire coursework of the degree shall be Nine academic years (excluding Internship) A student failing in the annual examination for three consecutive years in a professional year of Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry degree programme shall be finally dropped automatically from the University on account of poor academic performance (except fourth professional year).

First professional year of Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry classes shall commence latest by 1st September of every year. Each professional year shall cover at 210 days of instruction excluding time spent for annual examinations except fourth professional year which consists of 315 instructional days. The exact dates of the year shall be announced through an academic calendar prepared by the committee of the Principals of the College, wherein suitable adjustment shall be made to accommodate Diwali holidays / summer vacation and other holidays.

Academic Requirement

In order to earn his/her B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree of the University, an enrolled student shall have to complete satisfactorily the prescribed number of course credits including those acquired by the approved transfer, and shall have earned an overall grade point average (OGPA) of 5.0 and above.

A course credit means one hour of theory lecture or two hours of laboratory / practical per week and three hours of clinics in VCC/LFC. The course of study includes the following;

  • Core courses
  • NCC / NSS
  • Internship including Entrepreneurial Training
  • The students will undertake an educational tour of not more than ten days after successful completion of entire course work.

Attendance

The required condition of attendance shall not be deemed to have been satisfied in respect of the subject, unless the student has ordinarily attended all the scheduled theory and practical classes, provided, the minimum requirement of attendance shall not be less than 75% of scheduled theory and practical separately with relaxation of twenty working days for NCC or NSS, Co-curricular activities and medical ground and for the course of 0+1 credit, the relaxation shall be of only seven days.

A candidate having attendance below- 75% in a subject will not be eligible to appear in the annual examination of that subject.

The award of classes will be based on the OGPA (Overall grade point average) obtained by the candidates and will be governed by the following criteria

Postgraduate Programme (PG)

The Universities shall offer the following Postgraduate Programmes

  • Doctorate Degree
  • Master Degree

Doctorate Degree Programme (Ph.D.)

The duration of the Doctorate Degree Programme shall be six and eight Semesters for fresh and in-service candidates, respectively.

The minimum marks at Masters’ level required for admission to Ph.D. Programme in the respective / related field of study shall be as under

The duration for the Master Degree Programme shall be four Semesters for the students who have obtained degree from the SAUs & KU of Gujarat or ICAR recognized/approved college/University as given below.

A candidate for admission to Masters’ degree programme (as mentioned in 2.3) should have the minimum requirement of marks at the bachelor‘s degree level as under.

For Schedule Caste (SC), Schedule Tribe (ST), SEBC, Physically challenged (PC) and Government sponsored Candidates (candidates with at least 3 years experience) 55% Marks or
