College is situated in Sardar Krushinagar Agricultural University, Dantiwada Main Campus which is almost 30 kms away from the Railway Station in the Palanpur city, Banaskantha.

To impart education and develop human resources in dairy industry, the ‘G.N. Patel College of Dairy Science and Food Technology College’ was established at SardarkrushinagarDantiwada Agricultural University (SDAU) in May 2008 and it began functioning in the Old Press Building in the University Campus. The college offers a B. Tech. degree in ‘Dairy Technology’ (with an intake capacity of 40 students per year).
The College was established as per Govt. Resolution No. skv-122007-1639-k-2dated 27-05-2008 under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Mode with the signing of a tri-partite Memorandum of Understanding (M0U) on 22-07-2008 between the SDAU, the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd. (GCMMF) and the Government of Gujarat. GCMMF partly sponsored the college building construction for which land has been allotted. Honorable Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Narendra Modi performed the bhoomipoojan on 14-08-2008.
The overall project cost was estimated to be about ` 23 Crores and it was constructed in phases. Phase I roughly amounting ` 5.0 Crores which was contributed by GCMMF. In the year 2014-15, Government of Gujarat sanctioned ` 18.00 Crores for Phase- II construction. Hon’ble Agricultural Minister performed the bhoomipoojan for the II phase, the construction had already been Completed and College has fully shifted in newly constructed building.
The college is currently acquiring quality infrastructure which currently includes a fully operational 1000 litre Mini-Dairy plant (incl. Milk Processing Plant, Ice-Cream plant, drying plant etc.) amounting to Rs. 2.0 crores along with ultra-modern laboratories, classrooms with OHP facilities, quality furniture.
Student of ‘Dairy Technology’ are already regularly taking advantage of the facilities created for them.
Having state-of-the-art laboratories and infrastructure besides contributing to academic and research requirements could also be useful in short term Certificate and Diploma courses envisioned for the local population who can benefit and utilize this knowledge in creating business or expanding/enhancing their present produce/milk output.
Objectives
- To impart under graduate/post graduate education in the discipline of ‘Dairy Technology’.
- To do research in the discipline of ‘Dairy Science and Technology’.
- To create technical man power to support the growing dairy processing industry in Gujarat through vocational/polytechnic/certificate courses in various discipline.
- To promote the entrepreneurship amongst technical personnel produced thereby making them job providers rather than job seekers.
- To act as a driving force for availability of nutritious food for the local population.
- Upliftment and expansion of rural/urban economy.
- Dissemination of Dairy production & processing technology for socio-economic transformation.
